Robustness of lab-scale biofilters used for the treatment of gaseous effluents emitted from tire manufacturing industry

Résumé

Manufacturing operations and the natural environment are becoming increasingly linked. It is likely that sustainability and environmental stewardship will be increasingly important considerations in manufacturing in the future and are likely to influence the main priorities for advancing manufacturing operations and technologies (Rosen and Kishawy, 2012). In this context, the limitation/management of exhaust emissions is of significance for the tire manufacturing industry. Although the composition of gases varies from site to site or from country to country, it is common to find mixtures of biodegradable (such as alcohols) and recalcitrant (mixture of alkanes) Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
