Neuroépidémiologie Tropicale
L’UMR Inserm 1094 NeuroEpidémiologie Tropicale (NET) s’est structurée autour d’un objet de recherche commun : l’épidémiologie, en zone tropicale, des affections neurologiques ou à conséquence neurologique. Les axes de recherches développés par l’unité sont les suivants :
Epidémiologie de l’épilepsie en zone tropicale
Qui vise à rechercher les facteurs de risque parasitaires de l’épilepsie, en particulier à déterminer l’impact du paludisme cérébral en termes de séquelles neurocognitives et à développer des stratégies d’intervention.
Epidémiologie moléculaire et facteurs de risque de la toxoplasmose
Consacré à l’épidémiologie moléculaire et aux facteurs de risque de la toxoplasmose. Les travaux de recherche au sein de cet axe traitent de la biodiversité de Toxoplasma gondii, et du lien entre génotype et expression clinique de la toxoplasmose.
Epidémiologie des pathologies neurodégénératives en zone tropicales
Celui-ci est consacré à l’étude épidémiologique des démences en zones tropicales et cherche à préciser leur prévalence et leur impact. Le taux de conversion des troubles cognitifs légers en démence est également étudié ainsi que les facteurs de risque de cette conversion. Forte de son expérience sur l’étude épidémiologique de la Sclérose Latérale Amyotrophique en France et en Europe, l’unité débute ses travaux sur cette pathologie en Afrique.
